In the late 60's and 70's both Vancouver Aquarium, and California's Steinhart Aquarium visited the Comoros and conducted coelacanth research. However, the Exlporers Club Expedition of 1986, under direction of Jerome Hamlin, returned specimens which were made available for a new range of scientific tools and techniques. A new era of research was underway.
